Cley-Next-The-Sea is a small town near the North Norfolk coast. The Railway arrived in 1896 when the M&GN built a branch line from Holt to Cley. Although originally authorised to go to Blakeney the money ran out and the branch only got as far as Cley. The inter war years was the high point of the lines existance with the admirality adding further lines in 1915 to the gunnery ranges at Salthouse and the air station at Blakeney (later to become RAF Blakeney).By the 1960’s the ranges had long gone and the airfield became a radar station with Bloodhound missiles. The line was reduced to freight only and the section between Holt Road and Cley closed.
The Layout assumes that the line to the East of the level crossing had closed leaving the small good yard to serve the local farming area and the storage depot at RAF Blakeney. The RAF station stores facilities closed along with the rest of the line in 1976 with the RAF station finailly closed in 1991.
The layout is set between 1962 (the end of steam in East Anglia) and 1976. Traffic during this period includes fuel oil and stores for RAF Blakeney, sugar beet, potatoes, grain, general agricultural machinery and sand.
The track work is by Ratio and 3SMR with the points controlled by wire in tube. All the locomotives and rolling stock are a mixture of scratch built and products made available from the 3MM Society, Parkside, Worsley Works, 3SMR, Finney & Smith, Lenny Applegreen and Judith Edge.
